Last seen for sale at $150,000, this 1939 LaSalle Damascus Carved Panel Hearse by Sayers & Scovill represents the pinnacle of 1930s funeral coach luxury. Known as the “Damascus,” it features intricate carvings on the rear door and all optional S&S markings on the grill, hood louvers, hubcaps, rear bumper, and door step plates—yet carries no LaSalle nameplates. Rare options include the Sayers and Scovill extension table (patented 1935) and side doors for the casket compartment.
The casket compartment is finished in finely stained wood with cloth inserts, and the division window behind the chauffeur displays an etched sunburst pattern. A full frame-up restoration in 1994 preserved this piece during an era when limousine-style hearses began replacing carved panel designs, making surviving examples exceptionally rare.
