One of the rarest and most sought-after funeral cars in existence, this 1959 Cadillac Superior Royale Hearse/Ambulance Combo is a limo-style combination that spent its entire life in Texas. Believed to have been used by Sanders Funeral Home—the same funeral home that handled Buddy Holly’s funeral—the car’s possible connection to the rock icon adds intrigue, though even the Buddy Holly Museum has been unable to confirm its involvement in the service. The vehicle remains remarkably solid with rockers, frame, and quarters in great shape, though floor pans will need replacement. The car is mostly complete, with missing door trim found in the rear.
The windshield has cracks, but the rare corner windows and rear door glass are in excellent condition. A few side glass panels are cracked but are flat glass and easily replaceable. Superior badges and curtain rods are mostly present, along with front and rear heat and the original driver’s side quarter panel air intake. Aftermarket A/C parts, the radiator, and fan are included inside the car. The engine is complete, though its internal condition is unknown.
