Sold new to the Cape May, New Jersey fire department in 1973, this 1973 Cadillac Hi-Top Ambulance was bodied by Superior and was later owned by Diamond Services in Texas before ending up near the Chicago/Southern Wisconsin area, displayed by LifeQuest EMS Services. Its final private owner put roughly 1,000 miles on it over four years.
Powered by a good-running 472 V8, it drove and rode great on new HD sidewall tires, with all glass good and an interior free of rips or severe damage. The underbody and frame showed no rot, though a bubbling rust spot sat on the right-rear quarter. Paint was presentable with minor flaws and chips, and the car wore a complicated color history — originally orange and white, later blue, with evidence of a red period behind the weatherstripping. The hood hinges were weak, leaving it slightly proud at the rear, and a minor exhaust leak up front disappeared when warm. All emergency lights worked, having been converted to LED, along with interior lights, radio, and wipers; the sirens, A/C, and heater did not.
