1934 Rolls-Royce Hearse by Alpe & Saunders

1934 Rolls-Royce Hearse by Alpe & Saunders

Chassis GUB72, this 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Hearse carries exceptional provenance: originally delivered new on March 2nd, 1934 with an enclosed-limousine body to Henley’s House Ltd for town and touring use, and later converted into a hearse by Alpe & Saunders — a coach of which only a handful exist. Documentation from the Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club confirms its authenticity, and the car retains its UK registration “BGJ954” with matching front and rear plates as well as its California Blue Plates.

Its original drivetrain was fully rebuilt on June 28th, 1984 with new bearings, a ground crank, and new wrist pins, accumulating fewer than 1,000 miles since. The engine turns over and runs briefly on starting fluid but requires carburetor cleaning for sustained operation. The all-aluminum body and undercarriage show no significant rust beyond minor surface storage corrosion, and front glass and chrome are well-preserved. Extensive records document re-chroming, new rear door glass seals, window regulators, and clutch resurfacing, with wood and trim pieces, wheel covers, and tools included. The hearse rolls freely and its tires hold air.
